Course Title:  Spanish III
2 Semesters – 10 Credits – 5 Class periods per week
 
 

Course Description

 
Having already established the basic fundamentals of Spanish grammar in Spanish I and II, this advanced level course will focus more on practical application of the Spanish language.  Continuing vocabulary development as well as an increased understanding and use of grammatical structures will be emphasized through in-class discussion and dialog with students, and through written exercises.  An emphasis will be placed on evangelistic efforts through cultural understanding and the use of advanced language skills. Students will read and interpret original works of literature by Hispanic authors as they pertain to the particular unit of study.  There will be an increased emphasis given to Spanish cultural identification through exploration of resources which display different aspects of the Hispanic language, culture, society and lifestyle.  Throughout the course, students will be expected to speak, think, read and write in Spanish at a more advanced level. 
 
Objectives:
  • Utilize advanced skills to witness to Hispanic cultures
  • That the students would achieve a real, working ability in the use of the Spanish language including all aspects of language:  reading, writing, listening and speaking.
  • That the students would expand their knowledge of Spanish grammar with a particular emphasis on the subjunctive mood.
  • That the students would increase their understanding and appreciation of Hispanic culture through the study of various literary works as well as the use of other cultural resources.

Prerequisite
 
Must be at minimum, a third year secondary student and have earned a minimum of a “C” in Spanish II.
