Course Description
 
Spanish I, the first course of the four levels of Spanish courses offered at WCS, is an introduction to the basic elements of Spanish. It includes: parts of speech, sentence structure, punctuation and pronunciation.  Both the present is taught, as well as, functional vocabulary which provides students with basic conversational and navigational skills. In addition to basic language skills, each chapter provides a lesson on Hispanic culture, and traditions.  This course will fully prepare students for Spanish II
 
This course will also provide students with the opportunity to come into an understanding and awareness of God’s desire for us to communicate effectively with Him and others.  As the Hispanic culture will be discussed in each unit, the core Biblical Truths will be the focus of each discussion illustrated and supported by scripture.  In addition to discussion, students will learn by memory two prayers in Spanish and the necessary language skills to share the Gospel.
 
As a culminating project, students will design and create a family album in Spanish using a scrapbook or PowerPoint presentation.  Students will demonstrate the vocabulary, sentence structure and grammar skills they have learned throughout the year.

  • Explore the beauty of God’s creation of race and culture
  • They will be exposed to material that will contribute to their spiritual growth and                                                  possible evangelistic purposes.  
  • Introduction to the basic elements of the Spanish language and Hispanic culture
  • Develop basic conversational skills
  • Become proficient with present tense verb structure
  • Utilize basic punctuation in writing
