Course Title: Standard Calculus AB
2 Semesters – 10 Credits – 5 Class Periods per Week
Course Description:
Standard Calculus AB is designed to be a college-level first semester calculus course. This course will introduce calculus with elementary functions.
Course Objectives:
Students will be able to

Analyze functions and their graphs

Apply an intuitive approach to determine limits

Calculate limits using algebra techniques

Understand continuity in terms of limits

Define derivative

Calculate derivatives of elementary and transcendental functions

Understand and apply the concept of derivative in solving optimization and related rate problems, as well as velocity, displacement, and acceleration problems

Relate the concept of the Second Derivative to concavity of functions

Approximate the definite integral using a Riemann sum or trapezoidal sum
-
Use the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus to integrate polynomial, power, exponential, logarithmic, trigonometric and inverse trigonometric functions

Apply definite integrals to solve various physical problems such as finding area of a region, the volume of a solid of revolution, average value of a function, and volume of a solid with known cross sections

Use a graphing calculator in correlation with various topics of study.

Prerequisites:
Students must have either earned a grade of not less than a "C" in Honors Trigonometry/Pre-Calculus or not less than “B” in Standard Trigonometry/Pre-Calculus.
