Course Title:  AP Calculus AB
2 Semesters – 10 Credits – 5 Class Periods Per Week
 

Course Description:
                AP Calculus AB is designed to be a college-level first semester calculus course which will introduce students to calculus with elementary functions and prepare students to succeed on the Advanced Placement test for Calculus AB.  Specifically, it is intended to fulfill the requirements of the "Calculus AB" course outlined in the Mathematics Advanced Placement Course Description.
 
Course Objectives:
 
Students will be able to
  • To describe the wonders of all that God has made
  • To reveal the invisible attributes of God
  • To demonstrate how the application of mathematics can be used to honor God and  serve others
As outlined in the Mathematics Advanced Placement Course Description, this course will introduce calculus with elementary functions.  The scope of the course will include the following topics:

                Functions and Graphs

Properties of Functions
Properties of Graphs

Limits and Continuity

Finite Limits

Nonexistent Limits
Continuity

Differential Calculus

The Derivative
Statements and applications of Theorems about Derivatives
Applications of the Derivative

Integral Calculus

Antiderivatives (Indefinite Integrals)
The Definite Integral
In addition, students will be introduced to the use of graphing calculators in correlation with the various topics of study.
 
 
Textbook:
The Bible,
Calculus with Trigonometry and Analytic Geometry(second edition), by Saxon and Wang, Saxon Publishers, 2002.
Supplementary material is added as deemed appropriate by the teacher.
 
Required Materials:
Bible, textbook, graphing calculator, writing materials
 
Prerequisites:
                Students must have earned a "B" or better in Honors Trigonometry/Pre-Calculus.
