Course Title:  Algebra I
2 Semesters – 10 Credits – 5 Class Periods Per Week
 
Course Description:
This class is a study of the language, concepts, and techniques of
Algebra that will prepare students to approach and solve problems following a logical
succession of steps. The foundational skills taught in this course lay the groundwork for upper level math and science courses and have practical uses. Algebra I is offered 8th through 12th grade. The majority of students take Algebra I as 9th graders.
 
Course Objectives:
Students will be able to           
  • To describe the wonders of all that God has made
  • To reveal the invisible attributes of God
  • To demonstrate how the application of mathematics can be used  to honor God and serve others
  • Describe and work with the Properties of Real Numbers
  • Solve, Graph and Write Linear Equations
  • Solve and Graph Linear Inequalities and Linear Systems
  • Perform Operations with Exponents and Solve Exponential Equations
  • Perform Operations with Polynomials including Factoring
  • Solve and Graph Quadratic Equations and Functions
  • Solve and Graph Rational Equations and Functions
  • Perform Operations Radicals and Understand Connections to Geometry

Required Materials:
               
                Bible, textbook, calculator, ruler, writing materials
 
Prerequisites:
 
                A grade of ‘C’ or better in Pre-Algebra.
